5 minutes with ... Maria Kamper

When did you get married?
Sunday 27th December 2009

What was the location of your wedding?
Saint George Orthodox Church, Rose Bay with the reception at Sheraton on the Park, Sydney

Did you engage in the services of a wedding planner?

Yes, we engaged Anthony Del Col from Staging Connections to help us, who did a fabulous job!

Can you dish a little on your cake?
Made by Planet Cake, my cake was 5 tiers high; each tier a square with a different design pattern on it. It was decorated with yellow, orange, pink and red flowers, diamantes, piping, satin ribbon and intricate design patterns….The cake was designed to match the theme of the room and my dress!

What were your flowers like?
My flowers were mix of Columbian Roses and Tiger Lilies in vibrant reds, oranges, yellows and pinks. I had 4 different centrepieces and each centrepiece was a block colour because my wedding was in Summer and I wanted the reception to be very colourful and bright. The flowers were amazing they were from Dianne’s Fresh Flowers.

How about your dress?
My dress, a strapless bodice made in silk white silk satin, was by Alex Perry. The base of the bodice was heavily beaded with diamond Swarovski crystals graduating upwards and downwards. My bodice was attached to a large white tulle skirt with more beading graduating down the skirt. I also had a Swarovski diamond jeweled bow on the bottom of the bodice; the bow was my favourite part of the dress! After the church ceremony and the photographs, I swapped my cathedral length veil with a beautiful hand made flower that had a few diamond Swarovski crystals for the reception.

Did you encounter any hiccups along the way?
I found looking for shoes the hardest part of the process, I was really worried at one stage, and I was looking everywhere and couldn’t find anything that I liked. Fortunately I went on a business trip to America (2 months before my wedding) and found them over there. I found this beautiful satin corte shoe, exactly

what I wanted, something closed in and high but still elegant. The problem was it only came in Hot Pink and Black; it had a beautiful diamante heel. I did find them in cream satin but without the crystals and decided to purchase them and get the heel crystallized here in Sydney. It ended up working out perfectly because I got the heel of the shoe covered in blue Swarovski Crystals – that was my Something Blue! Sometimes things work out for the better, so don’t stress too much!

Do you have any words of wisdom for brides to be?
Enjoy the process of organising everything in the lead up to the wedding, it makes every step much more exciting! Be organised and everything will pan out perfectly.

On the day, take in every single moment – it is one of the best days

of your life, so enjoy it! And most of all have FUN!
