The collection is oh-so wearable and has the signature Lagerfeld look we’ve seen in his iconic designs for Chanel – think neutral black and whites, metallic and a grunge-meets-glamour feel. The celebrated designer’s diffusion line features 100 pieces priced from $100 to $1000 and has a focus on urban style, with a heavy emphasis on denim and leather pieces. Natalie Massenet, Net-A-Porter's founder and executive chairman, told Vogue: 'From the moment we saw the collection we were hooked... The collection will speak to every woman who wants a bit of the inimitable fabulous street chic that Karl Lagerfeld is known for.'

A second collection, Karl Lagerfeld Paris, will be available later this year, with a price range of $300 to $2500. With the price hike comes a greater selection – the collection includes 300 pieces of both women and menswear. If the success of Lagerfeld’s 2004 collection for H&M is anything to go by, expect big things from the designer’s latest diffusion lines.

Fashion for the Boys...

Recently I have come across 2 specialist fashion stores for the boys in Sydney which I highly recommend if you are in the market for something special.

Firstly, I was in the market for some Bow Ties for an event I am doing very soon and a friend kindly pointed me into the right direction of ‘Le Noeud Papillon Sydney’ a business that specializes in making beautiful silk bow ties. The French call a bow tie ‘Le Noeud Papillon’ which translates to ‘the knot of the butterfly’ and its history is derived originally from Croatian mercenaries during the Prussian wars of the 17th Century, who used a piece of cloth to shut close the collar of their shirts. Traditionally bow ties are made of silks and, in the case of formal wear, the bow tie should match the lapel of the jacket. See here for more info:

Secondly, I visited ‘Harrolds’ menswear in the new Westfield in the City and was blown away at how amazing this store is, I felt like I was visiting a store overseas in London or Paris. What is the true value of Publicity?

This is a controversial issue and many people have differing opinions, in case you may be interested, here is mine…

For obvious reasons, I am passionate about Public Relations and a strong believer that gaining editorial and product placement for our clients as we do every day here at Magnet PR & Events, is a powerful and creative tool for promoting businesses, brands and concepts…..and obviously there is a great demand for this kind of publicity!

I happened to start my career in Advertising and whilst working for Mojo Partners and Young and Rubican found out that Advertising has its place as well. I worked on corporate campaigns for the launch of Telstra.com and many well-known FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) whereby a clever Advertising strategy is paramount. We all catch ourselves saying “Have you seen that dumb AD on TV at the moment for Toohey’s New, where the guy falls into the bath of ice…” just the fact that you have spoken about this to your friend, makes this expensive advertising campaign work in boosting the brand’s recognition to be top of your mind.

PR is editorial based, therefore the client pays nothing to the media to get their company featured. Once a magazine reader has read a story or the TV viewer has seen a show which appeals to them about a topical issue they relate to featuring our clients, they are more likely to buy that product or book in with that expert is featured – therefore PR is more credible than Advertising as you have the journalists endorsement and finds you fit enough to tell the world about.

For newer brands launching on the market, a clever Public Relations strategy is the way forward to launch and generate awareness of that brand. You see journalists love the next big thing, they are constantly on the lookout for new and exciting products/people and stories they can write about in their pages. It’s a clever publicist’s job to get journalists excited about our clients brands and therefore featured amongst their pages. This not only wins big brownie points with clients as it gets their phones ringing, website hits souring and people talking about them. As the years go by, it never fails to make me happy to watch a client’s excitement as I show them an exciting piece of press we have obtained for them. Their confidence grows more and more when they go through the process of being shot for a story or interviewed for an article…PR becomes a pleasurable drug or an addictive substance…once they have a taste of fame, they want MORE!

Magnet PR & Events has produced awesome PR results for many brands over the years, see here for our client base. We worked managing the PR for 5 years with Planet Cake, Australia’s largest couture cake decorating business as well as obtaining over 25 articles in the press for ISCD over a year. We have launched many popular dining establishments in Sydney such as Firefly Bar and Bacco Wine Bar Pasticceria and also the ever so popular Rambutan.

All in all, what some people don’t understand that there is a creative and extremely strategic method that goes into securing good PR for a brand or business and it does not come easy. Therefore we like to work with clients who actually appreciate and understand how the process of securing press for them is actually a fine art to respect and be grateful for. Once we have secured your name in the media, it is there forever, it is the gift that keeps on giving!

Multicultural Madness- in men who intrigue and delicious cuisine!

I had a recent experience which portrayed to me the cultural differences between men and women, specifically with an ethnic background. I found that men of an ethnic background ooze an aura of charm and confidence, making me question to myself as to whether I am being hit on or just idolised and respected as a woman. Someone that appreciates different cultural cuisines this encounter made me look forward to attend premier Sydney caterer’s the George Khouzame Groups- ‘Masterchefs of Middle Eastern Cuisine’ dinner at the Ivy on October 15, 2011

This group are passionate about sharing and portraying modern Middle Eastern Cuisine and Culture in Australia and 2011 marks their 25^th Anniversary.

A 10 course dinner of the most delicious Middle Eastern Food this country has to offer my mouth waters every time I look at the chefs food images of what they can create. Hosted by the gorgeous Peter Evans, TV personality and chef from the Hugo’s group, and a guest appearance by funny man, Paul Fenech from TV show ‘Fat Pizza’. The chefs who are flying in from their home cities to prepare dishes for us include:

· Greg Malouf (Momo, Melbourne)

· Shane Delia (Maha, Melbourne)

· Joe Barza (international chef from Beirut)

· Vincent Gadan (Patisse, Sydney)

Word has it that some of the chefs have blown their ingredient’s budget for this dinner to produce entrees such as:

Walnut crusted pork belly, celeriac semolina, fried cauliflower, Tahini - Prepared by Chef Shane Delia

Venison bastourma, duhka quail egg, Japanese mayo, pickled cucumber – Prepared by Chef Shane Delia

I personally am really looking forward to trying the following main:

Moghrabieh with Lamb Cutlet – Prepared by Chef Joe Barza

With modern Lebanese entertainment on the night, cocktails upon arrival using Arak and renown Lebanese winery, Massaya Wines being served all night, the night should be truly incredible!

2011 Ultimate Wedding Planing Party

Last night saw the Ultimate Wedding Planning Party come to life at the Opera Point Marque after 6 months of planning. The inaugural event had over 260 guests, including newly engaged ladies and gentlemen, media guests and many wedding event professionals. A part from the magical weather which blessed the day, to officially kick of the event, a spectacular performance was showcased by the gorgeous ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Carmelo Pizzino and his dance partner Alana Patience.

Guests were treated to bridal runway shows by wedding dress designers - Lisa Gowing, VELANI by Nicky Velani, Sarah Janks, Collette Dinnigan and Camilla Kaftans for honeymoon attire with all shoes provided by Nat-Sui.

Formalities included insightful advice by Alicia Richardson, Editor of The Knot, Anthony Del Col Wedding Stylist from Staging Connections, Graham Monro from gm photographics, Abraham Joffe from Untitled Films and Paris Cutler from Planet Cake. To create a true romantic atmosphere, beautiful floral arrangements were placed around the venue by Susan Avery Flowers and decadent chandeliers were placed high in the marquee by Chandeliers to Die for.

Delicious canapés were served throughout the night by Opera Point Events and Aria Catering while refreshments included Yarra Burn Sparkling Wine and St Germain Elderflower Liqueur cocktails. The mood was truly executed by all things bridal and wedding related as guests were delighted to be a part of the Ultimate Wedding Planning event, reporting to have made confident decisions for their wedding day.

Guests were able to liaise with industry professionals at partner stands and discuss valuable wedding planning tips. Event Partners included Sparkle Cupcakery, Ooh! Ahh! Invitations, Roll up in a Rolls, Le Bon Bon Stationery, Maya Medispa, Sydney Wedding Registry, De La Mod Stationery and Tourism Noosa plus many more. Entertainment was provided by Sweethearts Music, Sydney Wedding Dj’s and the Press Club Band to truly set the scene.

Ladies were able to have makeover touch ups by Bobbi Brown professional make-up artists throughout the entire evening as well as enjoy a hand massage using decadent Jo Malone product. A truly beautiful and boutique event portraying Sydney’s ultimate wedding professionals assisting guests to create a special day…their wedding day!

Well its the day of the wedding, well in this case the day of the 2011 UWPP event that I promise will inspire, delight and teach you all you need to know by putting you in touch with Sydney's very best wedding experts on how to plan your ultimate wedding!

A running order of tonights Gala event is as follows:

6pm: Doors open! Guests may enter and mingle with all the partner stands in both the marquee and the East room whilst enjoying Opera Point events canapes, Yarra Burn wines and St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur cocktails.

7.20pm: Guests are seated

7.30pm sharp: lights down and stage show commences with special guest appearance from Carmello Pizzino and his dance partner, Alana Paitence. Bridal catwalk shows and wedding experts hit the stage.

8.20pm: More bridal catwalk shows plus lucky door prizes and finale!

8.30pm: Stage show conclude and guests are able to enjoy the Press Club Band live whilst mingling with our experts and enjoying more drinks and canapes.

Carmelo Pizzino to join Sydney’s Ultimate Wedding Event at Sydney Opera House

Carmelo Pizzino, the popular dancer best-known as the man who has steered Lara Bingle, Tamara Jaber, and Kylie Gilles to dancing success on TV’s Dancing With The Stars, is set to join the illustrious line-up at Sydney’s most prestigious bridal event: the Ultimate Wedding Planning Party (UWPP).

His plan is to dazzle the assembled crowd with his dance moves – one couple at a time. Several surprises are planned for the evening, as he takes to the dance floor with fellow DWTS dancer Alana Patience (who just won the TV comp with Manu Feildel). When and where did you get married?

Mike and I were married on the 9th October 2010, at 'La Toscane', Sweetwater Vineyards, Hunter Valley

Tell us about your dress…

I designed and made my own dress. My background is in Fashion and Costume for Film and Theatre, so I definitely wanted to create my own special dress for the Day! It features gorgeous hand made French lace and I opted for a matte silk faille, as opposed to a silk satin- the theme of the day was very much a 'Garden Party' so I didn't want anything to ultra-glam! I've worked in Fashion and Wedding Dresses for several years now, so my first step was to try on dresses with different necklines and skirt silhouettes...you'll know what looks better on you than others, so I think shopping around and trying different things on is valuable research.

Tell us about your bridesmaids story….

I had 4 B/maids- my 2 younger sisters, my cousin and my best friend from School. It was wonderful to have them all there :) I designed their dresses and made all 4. I opted for a matte silk crepe to keep within the style of my own dress, and embellished them slightly with pieces of the lace from my gown on the hem and shoulders. I adore turquoise and the colour worked well with photos within the location, so choosing a colour was easy. The fact the girls were happy with the colour and the simpleness made the process easy. I found the waisted v-neck style very forgiving for all figures- all the girls felt comfortable- even my cousin who just had her baby! I conducted all fittings and they paid for the fabrics ($60 ea). They kept their dress at the end. I paid for their hair to be done and bought flowers and lace we could use for their hair, and they styled the dress their own way with their shoes, and jewellery. I love the way, back in the day, that to be a bridesmaid was to pull out your best dress in the Brides chosen colour and to wear your best jewellery for the occasion- I kind of wanted to channel that idea a bit. Above all else I wanted them to comfortable...and they were. there was no hitches, no dramas and they really enjoyed the ability to have dress fittings without the price tag! The only slight issue was convincing my youngest sister to not wear her converse at the ceremony :)

-Do you have any great advice to pass onto future bride and grooms-to be?

Enjoy this process together! The Day above all else is about you and you bride/husband-to-be. As corny as it sounds, it really is about Love and the amount of love you experience on your Day is enormous! There will be ups and downs during the planning- we opted to source a lot of things ourselves as we pretty much had a vacant property to style, so our ideas sometimes clashed! Yes we had little disagreements about the smallest of things, but you have to remember why you are doing this. It's about the both of you. Pick the aspects of the Day that matter most to you both, and focus on that. This is the most incredible project you will both work on. Be patient, understanding of each other and ENJOY! The little things that you fear will go wrong will not even come close to grabbing your attention on the day- you'll only be looking at one person!

This week Sarah Janks opens her flagship Sydney studio in Sydney’s North Shore, introducing her stunning Debut collection, ‘TEMPUS’. The collection reinterprets classic shapes with a modern slant, employing traditional techniques with impeccable fit and attention to detail.

The dichotomy of fitted versus fluid is underlined by second skin bodices accompanied by ball gown or curvaceous hourglass skirts. Sarah has come a long way from leaving South Africa where she was born and raised to landing in London with just 300 pounds. Sarah found her first job at Kashkets, “My ability to fit and visualize a garment today is rooted in those days I spent working at Kashkets.”

Magnet's mascot is missing

By now most of you have probably heard that Magnet’s beloved mascot, Lola the black Persian cat who is 4 years went missing last week from our home in Double Bay. This has been a very upsetting time for us as we have no idea if she is lost and having a good time in someone else’s home or stolen because someone thought she would make a great pet for them.

ZARA opens in Sydney!

After many years of waiting, Sydney’s flagship ZARA store opened its doors last night at and we at Magnet PR where very lucky to be part of the opening madness!

Located in Sydney’s Westfield, off Pitt street Mall, the store is housed over 3 levels featuring women’s wear, men’s wear and teens/children’s wear on the lower ground.

The store was beautifully lit, the PR did a fabulous job of making us feel like rockstars walking in. Greeted with a clean looking store, canapés and Sparkling wine we were eager to browse the racks of Zara’s fantastic basics with great prices making me look twice and question whether I needed glasses! Soon enough we all had 5-10 pieces of garments in our hands and off we were into the change rooms, sparkling wines in hand.

All in all we at Magnet are very impressed with the new store and look forward to visiting there often, let’s hope they replenish the shelves after last night’s shopping frenzy! J

1)Melissa, where were you married?

Daniel and I were married at the Cerretti Chapel in Manly in October 2010. The decision to marry at this location was simple, it is the most beautiful chapel I have ever seen and since we are both religious we wanted to be married in a church.

2)Where was your reception?
The reception was held at the stunning Opera Point Marquee. We selected this venue because of its unique and spectacular location. Also this venue offered the most delicious menu which was a real treat for our guests.
3)Who designed your Bridal gown and bridesmaids dresses?

My wedding gown was designed by Pallas Couture in Paddington. “Marjolene is an ethereal corseted gown with French sequined lace which is exclusive to Pallas features a full flowing skirt with tulle overlay and organza ruffle detail. An embellish hair piece was personalised by Pallas to complete Melissa’s look”, said Cathy from Pallas Couture. Once I tried this gown on I could not take the smile off my face, I simply knew it was the one! My bridesmaid gowns are from Lisa Ho in Woollahra. I was not shopping for bridesmaids dresses the day I found the gowns but as soon as I saw them I knew they were perfect!
4)Who supplied your flowers?
My flowers were supplied by Sweet Art. By far the highlight was the suspended rose topiary balls from the ceiling of the marquee and there was an abundance of roses!

So its official, when Magnet PR & Events holds an event and we get Party of the Week according to the Sun Herald ‘S’ liftout.

Sparkle celebrated the launch of its new ‘Little Black Book’ – dubbed the ‘Little Black Dress’ of the cookbook world on Thursday 10^th March; with a delicious guest list of food & fashion media, sprinkled with a pinch of television presenters and complimented with an array of glittering Sydney party people.

Guests tickled their tastebuds with an assortment of Sparkle’s finest treats – miniature cupcakes, cucumber sandwiches & macaroons galore, all washed down with a decadent Moët & Chandon & St Germain Elderflower mix (www.stgermain.fr ) that flowed freely into the night.

As the sun set down over Surry Hills – a frenzy of photographer flashbulbs managed to keep the event alight and the social revellers and culinary royalty all in fine form. Despite the all-black dress code, several guests decided to break away from this request – including Jamie Wright who sported a fluoro orange get-up for the event. We love you Jamie!

The event was styled with stunning flowers from Garlands (www.garlands.net.au) and designer Jayson Brunsdon provided stylish little black dresses and shoes by Peep Toe (www.peeptoe.com.au ) for the gorgeous models.

The event was a sparkling success! Excuse me, I meant to say… ‘Party of the week’ did I mention that to you already?

As the new intern at Magnet PR I paid a visit to Sparkle Cupcakery in Surry Hills last week. The first thing I noticed upon entering is that this is no ordinary “cutesy” cupcakery. The store is sleek, modern and hip which fits in perfectly with the Surry Hills vibe.

With 16 mouth-watering flavours to choose from, you can imagine my predicament. As a self-confessed chocolate lover, naturally I decided on the Milk Chocolate cupcake, cliché... maybe, but no regrets here! The Belgian chocolate cake and frosting was moist and really hit the spot. What I also found impressive was the packaging. The cupcakes are packaged in stylish black paper bags with the silver Sparkle logo, which gives a fashionable twist to an already extraordinary cupcakery.

On the 10^th March, Sparkle Cupcakery will be officially launching a new book titled, “Sparkle Cupcakes: The Little Black Book” and personally, I cannot WAIT to get my hands on a copy. The book features gourmet cupcake recipes from Valentine’s Day cupcakes to NYC cupcakes, minimalist decorating techniques, and handy hints for styling. A walk through Bris-vegas

So this year I spent Christmas with family in the tropical state’s capital of Brisbane where unfortunately ‘the sunshine state’ slogan is not happening! We feel for plenty of people who are homeless through the floods and hope the rain stops soon.

Alas, it is nice to watch Brisbane grow from a backward country town where I grew up hanging out at Club LQ in the Queens Street Mall and drinking beer upstairs at Jo-Jo’s to an up and coming city which I love to visit. There has also been an emerging trend of my Sydney friends visiting Brisbane for a visit and ringing me to rave about their experiences.

So upon my explorations, here are a couple of places I have come across. I have an older brother who resides in Brisbane and has finally found a love of fine wine and foods so he introduced me to the Black Pearl Epicure, a wholesale and retail fine foods business also runs great cooking school classes www.blackpearl.com.au was the perfect spot to grab some last minute Christmas treats. What are delicious cheeses without some real French bread? Afterwards, head into boulangerie and patisserie, Chouquette www.chouquette.com.au in the heart of New Farm, you will not be sorry!

For lunch or dinner I highly recommend stoping in at Tartufo, restaurant & bar, Tony Percuoco’s (ex Fellini, Gold Coast) new spot in the Emporium hotel for some classic Italian food www.tartufo.com.au

Now if you have some cash and feel like splurging on designer shoes or accessories, Jean Brown next door to Tartufo has an exquisite selection of designer gear for Women, www.jeanbrown.com.au and there are plenty of other stores in the same complex. If you want something a bit more affordable, head to James Street where one will find Sass and Bide etc.. and the most gorgeous classic parfumerie I have ever seen in Australia, Libertine www.libertineparfumerie.com.au alongside the Palace Cinemas if one fancy’s a foreign flick.

The 2010 Ultimate Wedding Planning Party was a night to remember!! We had over 300 brides gather at the beautiful Opera Point Marquee to get the latest tips from the best of the bridal industry.

The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as guests enjoyed delicious Opera Point canapés and sipped on Jansz & Crown Lager, all while mingling with bridal experts such as Letterbird Lane and being pampered by the beauty gurus at Jo Malone & Bobbi Brown.

We had fantastic speakers that included Graham Monro (GM Photographics), Amy Erbacher (Amy Erbacher Beauty), Anthony Del Col (Staging Connections) and Mark Baulderstone (Riedel) who provided these brides-to-be with useful advice for their upcoming special day.
